Thursday Hangovers
A few teensy links... J.L. Bell pulls out some less depressing facts from the latest children & reading study. We loved the last act of this episode of This American Life, given over to alternate versions of William Carlos Williams' poem "This is Just to Say." (Via Austin.) Maud's award-winning essay "Conversations You Have at Twenty" is up at Narrative. Interesting contrarian thoughts on Cory Doctorow's Little Brother at Vector (contrarian compared to most of the other reviews I've seen around, anyway). Spoilers abound, so be forewarned. Dana waxes brilliant on Keith Gessen, proving that there actually is a purpose...

Friday Hangovers
You know you want it. The debate about Keith Gessen's mental state continues apace. EW catalogues the territory memoirs have already covered. Building a mysterious home (nice to have the millions, huh?). A columnist in the Times of India says don't buy books: The point that one is trying to make is that buying a book isn't such a great idea for a committed reader. In fact, one could go further and say that nothing kills the appetite for a book more than its easy availability. Eh, I'm perfectly capable of checking out a library book over and over too.
