Hi there, Gwenda! Strange Fruit is even more interesting than Caryl Phillips realizes. Two things: Abel Meeropol, who wrote the song, and his wife adopted the children of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, so the generational theme of Phillips' play bears even more fruit. And there was an entire book written about the history of the song some years ago by David Margolic and Hilton Als, called, appropriately, Strange Fruit.
